Of course, you may be concerned about how many of your favorite Bend places and activities are pet-friendly. Luckily, dogs are allowed on most trails in and around Bend, as long as they are leashed. Of course, well-behaved dogs can enjoy splashing in rivers and lakes along the trails.
One of many trails in the Deschutes National Forest, the Metolius River Trail is an easy, mostly flat, 12-mile hike along the river. The Deschutes River Trail, again in the Deschutes National Forest, is about 8-1/2 miles following the river and passes Benham Falls on the way. Play in the snow with your dog at the Wanoga Snow Play Area Sno-Park. Hike or ride along several trails and go sledding with your dog.
There are several dog parks in Bend too, like Pine Nursery Park, (with a fenced off-leash area, paved and unpaved trails to explore, and free poop bags) and Riverbend Beach Dog Park (a fully fenced off-leash park locally known as the Dog Park Beach). There’s even a dog park at Mt. Bachelor!
A few spots for dining and drinking with your furry companion are Anthony’s at the Old Mill District, Deschutes Brewery, 10 Barrel, McMenamins Old St. Francis School, Bend Brewing Co., and the McKay Cottage Restaurant. Most of the bars and restaurants in Bend have spacious patios for enjoying outdoor dining and allow well-behaved pets to accompany their owners.
And there are plenty of places to find a new toy or leash, pick up a few treats or try out a healthy new food for your furry friend. Plenty of groomers around too, if your dog enjoys the mud along the lake a little too much.
