Working from home used to be a kind of luxury and a little out of the ordinary. Now it’s just the way things are. It’s one of the things we’re facing these days. But, as enjoyable as it was in the beginning, it’s starting to wear thin. You really haven’t managed to get your new home office set up right yet, and you’re getting a little stir crazy. It may be time for a break. In fact, it is time for a break, so grab your laptop and come on out to Central Oregon!

It’s Easy
Everything’s all online anyway, so it really doesn’t matter if you’re in the same city or across the country. Those Zoom meetings work just fine either way. Plus, now you’ll have plenty of new things to explore and keep you busy when you’re not working. And there’s that gorgeous view of the Deschutes River right outside!
Most of our Central Oregon vacation rentals come with Wi-Fi, so you can set up your new office anywhere in your vacation home. Set things up in the dining room so you can stare out at the mountains all day. Or book one of our vacation rentals with a separate office and you won’t have to do much at all.
Or start the day out on the table in your fully equipped kitchen, with your first cup of coffee, and watch the sun come up over the Cascade Mountains—not a bad way to start the day at all! Move on out to the deck during the day, settle into a comfy lounge chair and enjoy the sunshine and fresh mountain air. A few deep, cleansing breaths and you’ll be ready for the afternoon push. When the day starts to ebb, finish up in front of the fireplace or stay outside by the firepit; just don’t get the s’mores on the keyboard!
It’s Fun
Central Oregon is a unique mixture of high plains and alpine mountains, making the range of outdoor activities available here almost limitless. And no matter the season, there are plenty of things to keep you busy during your free time.
Love anything and everything to do with snow and skiing? Rent one of our vacation rentals near Mount Bachelor and be minutes away from snowboarding, snowshoeing, snow tubing, downhill, cross country skiing, and everything to do with snow sports. If there’s no snow, why not try spelunking? The popular Lava River Cave is part of the Newberry National Volcanic Monument, and you can explore this cool cave on your own, or with a guide.
Maybe you love to hike or ride mountain bikes? Either way, the glorious Cascade Mountains are waiting for you, with slopes and trails galore. The Trail to Benham Falls or Tumalo Falls is easy hikes along waterways to spectacular waterfalls. Drive the short distance to Smith Rock State Park and bike or hike around boulders and the towering rocky spires. Smith Rock is popular with climbers from all over the country who come to enjoy all manners of rock climbing and bouldering. Give it a try! Or hike through the Newberry National Volcanic Monument where lava flows and volcanic terrain are frozen in time and where Paulina Peak offers an amazing panoramic view of the area.
We’ve got white water river rafting, kayaking, bird watching, rock climbing, and the best fly fishing around. After you’ve hike along the banks, get in the water! Whether you want exciting white water river rafting or just to watch bald eagles soaring above as you lazily tube your way downriver, the Deschutes River has it all.
Love fly fishing? Or maybe you’ve always wanted to learn? You’ve picked the perfect spot! The Deschutes River has many great fishing spots where you can test your skills against the Columbia River redband trout (also known as redsides). Head to the Crane Prairie Reservoir, Wickiup Reservoir, and Lake Billy Chinook to fish for rainbow trout along with kokanee salmon, largemouth, and brook trout.
So, get busy, get it done, and get outside! And if you’ve had enough outdoor fun, head indoors for dining, shopping, and more. Shop Downtown Bend and the historic Old Mill District, where you’ll enjoy not paying sales tax! Quilters will love BJ’s Quilt Basket and Cowgirl Cash has everything you need to get your cowboy vibe on with vintage boots, pearl snap shirts, Stetsons, and of course, plenty of turquoise jewelry.
And if you’re a beer aficionado, you’ll love walking the Bend Ale Trail with almost twenty great breweries to tour and taste! If you don’t do the tour, make sure you visit Boneyard Beer, Bend Distillery, and the Deschutes Brewery while you’re in Bend.
