Central Oregon is host to a variety of endurance performances throughout the year from bike races to marathons and more. The beauty surrounding Bend and the cool temperatures make it the ideal location to conduct these tests of endurance. For several years now The Pacific Crest Weekend Sports Festival, formerly known as the Pacific Crest Weekend Sports Festival, has put athletes from all over the world in a contest to test their endurance. The 2019 event will be the 23rd annual festival and has something for everyone. Here are some of the biggest events scheduled for this year’s event:
Triathlon – BEASTMAN 72.3
The triathlon has been a highlight of endurance since they days of ancient Greece. Triathlons are three continuous races of running, biking, and swimming all done back to back. The Pacific Crest Weekend Sports Festival will be hosting the BEASTMAN Triathlon where participants will start with a 1.2-mile swim, followed by 58 miles of biking, and finished with a 13.1-mile run. Participating in a triathlon requires preparation for months and even years in advance. Participants can run this year’s BEASTMAN individually or as a two- or three-person relay team.
Duathlon and Aquabike – BEASTMAN 72.3
Many endurance athletes do not enjoy the swimming portion of a triathlon. If that sounds like you, then the duathlon might be more your style. This race keeps the distance of the biking and running sessions from the triathlon and removes the swimming portion. In contrast, if you are not a runner, then the Aquabike session may be more suited for you, as it removes the running race while keeping the swimming the biking races.
Variety of Other Races at the Pacific Crest Weekend Sports Festival
While the triathlon and duathlon are considered to be this year’s biggest events, a variety of other races such as a 5K, 10K, 28K and more will also be held. Kids races will also be held which encourage kids to test their own endurance while keeping things at an accessible level for them.
