The Cork and Barrel

Take a break from the hot July heat to enjoy delicious local area wine at the Cork and Barrel, Central Oregon’s largest wine and food event. Every third weekend in July since 2012, Cork and Barrel have been raising money for KIDS Center, a local charity, while bringing wine lovers together for a three-day, multi-event high-end wine festival.

The Charity – KIDS Center

The Cork & Barrel’s fundraising benefits KIDS Center, which is Central Oregon’s child abuse intervention center, and 100% of the funds raised at the benefit go directly to KIDS Center. Cork & Barrel has pledged to raise over $500,000 each year for KIDS Center, and this provides roughly 20% of the KIDS Center’s yearly operating budget.

For over 25 years, KIDS Center has been helping children and their families heal from the after-effects of child abuse. This evaluation and treatment center serves Central Oregon and offers a wide variety of services including forensic interviews, therapy, family advocacy, medical evaluations, and more.

The Benefit

Lasting three days, Cork & Barrel has a wide variety of events in Bend, Oregon, and wine. Here is a brief overview of the main events. There are a few extra events too, including Poker Night at the Loft and an online auction.

Winemaker Dinners on Thursday night. Limited to just 40 guests, these intimate dining experiences combine delicious meals from local chefs and specially selected local wines. A few examples this year are Willamette Valley Vineyards and Bowtie’s farm-to-table cuisine, and Project M at Flights Wine Bar.

A Sip of Cork & Barrel on Friday night. A night of Willamette Valley wine tasting, tasty hors d’oeuvres, live music, a silent auction, and more, all while mingling with the winemakers and owners from over fifteen participating wineries.

Grand Cru on Saturday night. The big event starts with a wine-tasting reception overlooking the lovely Deschutes River, with live music and more schmoozing with the winemakers and owners. Next, a sit-down multi-course dinner, complete with the wine course, the main event, and the lively live auction.
