While you should be showering your loved one(s) with love and affection every day, Valentine’s Day is the (sort of) official day of love and the day for lovers. This is the day you absolutely must spend with the one you love, doing the things you both love to do. If you have a significant other in your life, it’s pretty much a rule. It’s the day to be goofy, corny, mushy and all those things you try not to be the rest of the year. It’s also the time to show your passionate and tender side. So many ways to celebrate! Luckily, you’ve made the right decision to come to Bend and stay in one of our beautiful Valentine’s Day rentals in Bend OR!

Avoid the Hype
Get away from all the marketing and hype that goes on for Valentine’s Day and get outside. Head to Mt. Bachelor for skiing and snowboarding if you love fast snow sports, or tubing if you like your snow activities a little slower. It doesn’t have to be holding hands and gazing into each other eyes all the time. As long as you’re together and doing what you love to do, it counts. And besides, you can do the gazing and holding on later tonight in front of the roaring fire in your rental or snuggled close together out on the deck while you watch for shooting stars to make wishes on.
Take a leisurely hike (here’s the hand-in-hand part) along the Deschutes River Trail, as it wanders through downtown Bend, along the river and through several of the city’s pretty parks. Besides the gorgeous mountain scenery all along the way, the best part is that if you get tired, the coffee shops, bars and restaurants of downtown Bend are just a few steps away.
Be romantic and book a moonlight horse-drawn sleigh ride. (You should get extra points for this one.) Imagine the two of you, snug in warm blankets, as the sleigh slides between the trees through the forest, and over moonlit, snowy meadows, with just the sound of the horses and the occasional owl to break the silence.
Embrace the Hype
Go the other extreme, and embrace Valentine’s Day with all its red hearts and candy. They say that we spent over $5.8 BILLION on jewelry for Valentine’s Day in 2020 alone. So if your sweetie loves jewelry, handmade crafts and the like, hit the shops. As you wander through the quirky shops downtown or in the Old Mill, you’ll be able to pick up the perfect Valentine’s Day gifts and a couple lovey-dovey cards for each other.
Have a romantic dinner at one of Bend’s local restaurants. Call ahead for their V-Day menu and, of course, for reservations. A few romantic spots include Ariana Restaurant (they have a delicious tasting menu paired with wine selections), the Blacksmith Restaurant (a great date night steakhouse), Zydeco Kitchen & Cocktails (popular and lively), or the Pine Tavern (casual and inviting). Dine in, or order take-out to enjoy in your lovely vacation rental where you can dine at your leisure.
And don’t forget to get the chocolate! There are several local shops where you can select artisanal, special treats or stick with the traditional fancy box of chocolates (thanks to Richard Cadbury in 1861). A few shops to visit are Seahorse Chocolate (select your chocolate by country), Goody’s Chocolates and Candy (a little of everything including ice cream), Sweet Tooth Candy Shoppe (all the candy from your childhood), and Moonstruck Chocolate (make it easy on yourself and just get a sampler).
Enjoy Doing Nothing
Just don’t do anything. Don’t plan a thing. Take a hike if you want, ski if you feel like it, or just snuggle up in front of the large flat screen in your lovely living room and binge watch old, sappy romantic movies while you enjoy a few local craft brews. Have lunch and dinner delivered to your rental ahead of time, and warm things up when you’re ready to dine.
Grab a blanket and head out to your back deck where you can star gaze. Or, book one of our rentals in Bend OR with a private hot tub or outside firepit for more fun.
