It’s not Christmas unless the house is decorated, (especially if you have kids), and your vacation rental is no exception. Luckily, there’s plenty of space to put up a Christmas tree in our spacious rentals. In fact, if you’ve booked one of our more modern vacation homes, the tall, vaulted ceilings will accommodate tall, majestic trees with ease. Take the family on a day hike, trekking through the forests where you can cut your own tree (don’t forget your tree permit!). Or, take things easy and buy a pretty fir tree from a local area vendor.
Browse Downtown Bend or the Old Mill District for ornaments, lights and everything else you’ll need to decorate your tree and your rental. Start a new family tradition and buy some Bend or Oregon souvenir ornaments to hang on the tree or from the window. The Bend Store (in Downtown Bend) has an enormous selection of Bend and Oregon souvenirs. And, it really doesn’t take much to get into the holiday spirit. A tree is always nice, but if that seems like too much trouble, just buy Poinsettias to arrange around the living area, wrap ribbon around the stair or deck railing, and set your brightly decorated presents around. You’re done! Oh – don’t forget to pack the family stockings for the mantle!

Why go through the hassle of packing and carrying all your presents on the plane or in the car, when you can shop for everyone while you’re in Bend? Just plan on an extra day or two, then hit Downtown Bend and the Old Mill District to find everything you need for everyone on your list, with sporting goods, apparel, nature, and eco-friendly gifts and more. Many of our vacation rentals are close to Downtown or the District and you’ll be within easy walking distance of their galleries and shops.
For those hard to gift people on your list, why not a pair of vintage cowgirl (or cowboy) boots or a fancy western belt from Cowgirl Cash? Or a copper keychain or ornament from A Little Charm? Or a game or puzzle featuring limited-edition National Parks versions from Lone Crow Bungalow? For booklovers on your list, there are several great bookstores in town (like Dudley’s Bookshop Café where you can listen to live music while you browse or sip a holiday latte), and you can find antique books, best sellers, history and cookbooks and more. Get outside and have fun in the snow! Head to Mt. Bachelor or Hoodoo Ski Area for all the downhill skiing, snowboarding and cross-country skiing you want. Or, give the crowds a miss, strap on a pair of snow shoes and head into the backcountry for a quiet, snowy hike through an Alpine forest.
Stay inside! Snuggle up in front of a roaring fire. Let the kids make S’mores while you enjoy your Irish coffee, Warm Buttered Rum or favorite local craft brew. Grab your coat and step outside on the deck to enjoy some serious star gazing or maybe take a dip in the hot tub.
