Best Places for Off Roading in Oregon

HomeActivities in Bend OregonBest Places for Off Roading in Oregon

Looking for fun things to do in Bend? Outdoor activities make up a huge portion of the appeal Bend has for visitors. Activities like skiing, sledding, snowboarding, and snowshoeing highlight the winter. Fall activities include hiking and jogging, and summer fun includes swimming, boating, and fishing. And some activities can be performed at any time throughout the year, like mountain biking (switch to fat tire biking in the winter). These make Bend a top-tier destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

Off-road driving always appeals to the thrill-seeking adventurers that seem to find their way to our hometown. If you’re one of those adventurous types who think off-road driving would be of interest to you, here’s a list of the top off-road driving trails in Bend. Have fun off-roading in Oregon!

Edison Butte OHV Trail System

This free trail system is about 25 miles long and is open to all types of off-road vehicles. Motorcycles, quads, jeeps, and ATVs under 80 inches in width can experience the joy of off-roading in rocky terrain. Ride by the nearby lava ridges for extra excitement! It can be located off the Cascade Lakes Highway and Forest Road 45 about 19.1 miles west of Bend. There is a toilet located in the Edison Trailhead Parking Area, but no water is provided, so bring your own. This rugged trail is only open from April 1st through November 30th, as snow and ice make it too dangerous. Because of the remoteness of the area, be sure to be careful and pack a first aid kit. We don’t want your Bend vacation ruined because of an unexpected injury!

Edison Butte Sno-Park/Staging Area/Trailhead

Your off-roading in Oregon adventure doesn’t have to end at the sight of the first snowflake. The trailhead located in the same area as the OHV Trail System provides access to snowmobile trails when the OHV Trail System is closed to all other vehicles. Rent a snowmobile from Central Oregon Rentals at 63026 Plateau Drive, or rent a snowbike if you want to get crazy. They look like dirt bikes, but instead of wheels, they have chains on the back and a ski attachment on the front. Get one from Cascade Snowbike at 20409 Trap Court and start exploring the trails you can find along the way.
