Fall is the perfect time to visit Bend. The weather is cooling down, the leaves are changing colors, and the ski crowds haven’t hit town yet. But just because there isn’t any snow yet, doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty to do here. Bend is fast becoming a year-round destination, and its fall season is one of the reasons why. Make sure to learn more about our amazing Bend rentals where you can enjoy the best fall getaway with your loved ones.

Hiking and More
With day temps in the 60s and low 70s, Bend Oregon in the fall is the perfect time for outdoor activities. And you don’t even have to leave town. Hike up Pilot Butte for a bird’s eye view of downtown, not to mention bluebirds, Bohemian waxwings, and soaring eagles. Take a leisurely hike, bike ride, or a run along the Deschutes River and into Archie Briggs Canyon for colorful fall foliage. Farewell Bend Park, Sawyer Park, and Shevlin Park are great spots to start out your hike in town.
Bikers can head to Mt Bachelor’s downhill mountain bike park or explore the 500+ miles of single-track in the Bend area. If you love scenic waterfalls, then head to Tumalo Falls Trail in the Deschutes National Forest and hike the trail to the top for an absolutely breathtaking view of the picturesque falls. Hike around Sparks Lake for quick 2+ mile loop around one of the most photographed lakes in the state, then stay for an amazing sunset from one of the trail’s viewpoints.
Smith Rock State Park is a world-renown climbing spot and a must-do trip for any rock climber. Fall is the perfect time to climb the sheer rock canyons towering over the Crooked River now that the weather has cooled off. And if you aren’t a climber, there are plenty of hiking and biking trails in the Park, all with amazing views. It’s well worth the trip.
Birdwatchers in your group can walk part of The Oregon Cascades Birding Trail and you can start out right downtown in the Old Mill District (Great horned owls and screech owls make nightly passes through the area). Grab a table at one of the river side restaurants in the Old Mill, and enjoy a cool cocktail or locally brewed beer while birdwatching in comfort.
After a long hard day of hiking or shopping, it’s time to relax. Head to a local restaurant or bar for great food and local craft brews. Grab a table at Spork for Spicy Pork Noodles or tacos, or at Bend favorite Zydeco Kitchen and Cocktails for their trout dip and craft cocktails. Or order take-out, and dine at your leisure on your rental’s deck overlooking the fall foliage and the Cascade Mountains.
Beer and More
“The Bend Ale Trail” has over twenty breweries on the tour, year-round, and they go all out for this fall festival of beer. But, there are bonus prizes for participating in November, or the official Beer Ale Trail month. Take a guided tour or hit the trail on your own. The Deschutes Brewery and their Black Butte Porter or Jubelale Festive Winter Ale should be on your list. A few more seasonal brews to try are Octoblivion from Oblivion Brewing Co., Salted Caramel Porter from the Cascade Lakes Brewing Co., and the pumpkin Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo from RiverBend Brewery. Take a brewery tour, then stay for a few brews in the tasting rooms. Or schedule your visit during Bend’s Oktoberfest! Prost!
There are several distilleries, cideries, wineries, and kombucha brewers on the “Drinkable Diversions along the Bend Trail” tour. Kombucha is going strong here in Bend, and we even have a few local kombucha brewers like Compassion Kombucha. If harder spirits are more your taste, Crater Lake Spirits and Oregon Spirit Distilleries are both worth a visit. All of the local distilleries participate in the Oregon Whiskey Festival in September, too.
