The average high temperature in Bend is a nice, cool 60°, although it can climb into the high 80s during the summer months. If you’ve been paying any attention at all to the news lately, you know that temperatures in the western part of the US have been warming up, if not going completely crazy. So while you may not immediately think about needing AC during your visit to Bend, it could turn out to be one of those extra amenities you’ll be glad you looked for. Check out our Bend rental properties with air conditioning for a comfortable stay.

You Might Really Need It
If you’ve got a large group of friends and family all gathered in your vacation rental’s spacious living area, and everyone is enjoying an enthusiastic game of Twister (it’s making a comeback!), charades, or your own version of Freeze Dance or Dance Party, everyone may need a little cooling down. Being able to turn on the AC, even for a little while, will make things more pleasant. If you’ve rented one of our vacation condos or townhomes and are taking advantage of the association’s extra amenities like an on-site fitness center, you may have worked up a sweat in spin class; that AC will cool you off in no time.
Enjoy the Sun Outside, Then Enjoy the AC Inside
After a long day of hiking or mountain biking in the warm Oregon sun, you’re going to need cool down a bit, and the extra boost of the AC will be a welcome amenity when you make it back to your rental. There are so many mountains, forests, and national parks in the area to explore!
One of the more interesting places to visit around Bend is the Newberry National Volcanic Monument. This park offers a wide variety of hiking experiences, including the hike to the top of Lava Butte (a very cool old cinder cone volcano) for an amazing aerial view of the chain of the area’s Cascade volcanoes: Mt. Bachelor, Broken Top and the Three Sisters. There are over 100 miles of hiking trails winding past lakes, waterfalls (don’t miss Paulina Falls), hot springs, lava flows, and the Newberry Crater, a caldera stretching across the heart of the (still active) volcano. The Trail of Molten Lands holds the lava fields where NASA astronauts trained for their moon walk, and the Big Obsidian Flow with over 700 acres of black, shiny obsidian is something you just have to see. You can also try cave tubing in the Lava River Cave, a mile-long lava tube that is perfect for self-guided tours. The lava fields, caldera, and a majority of the park’s trails are unshaded and it’s easy to break a sweat as you hike or bike your way around this amazing park.
If you love waterfalls, you need to hike the Tumalo Falls Trail, in the Deschutes National Forest. A hike to the top of the trail leads you past the falls and on to an absolutely breathtaking view. Or hike around Sparks Lake for quick 2+ mile loop around one of the most photographed lakes in Oregon. Be sure to stay for an amazing sunset from one of the viewpoints.
You can also stay close to your rental and just head to downtown historic Bend. There are plenty of shops, brew pubs and restaurants to keep you occupied, or you can hike up Pilot Butte, the old dormant volcano that’s right in town. A climb to the top is a “must-do” for all visitors.
